Award of the PhD Thesis of Dr. K. Kapasakalis by the Hellenic Department of Earthquake Engineering (DEE)
The Hellenic Department of Earthquake Engineering (H.D.E.E.) announced the results of the evaluation of the “Scientific Publications and PhD Theses of Young Greek Scientists 2021” by an International Evaluation Committee consisting of 7 distinguished scientists with significant scientific work in the field of Earthquake Engineering. In the category of Doctoral Dissertations, 10 nominations were submitted and the best one was evaluated as the one of Mr. Konstantinos Kapasakalis, PhD in Civil Engineering, NTUA, entitled “Dynamic Systems of Vibration Absorption in Civil Engineering Structures”, which was prepared at the Laboratory of Statics & Earthquake Research of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, NTUA, under the supervision of Professor Evangelos Sapountzakis. The awarding of the PhD Thesis took place during the 5th Panhellenic Conference of Earthquake Engineering and Technical Seismology.
Awarded by the supervisor Dr. E. J. Sapountzakis
The aim of H.D.E.E. is to promote the development and application of the Science and Technology of Earthquake Engineering in Greece, to cooperate with the relevant international organizations and their national sections, to organize and participate in relevant conferences and to contribute to the reduction of seismic risk in Greece.
PHD Thesis presentation by Mr. K. Kapasakalis
The subject of the PhD thesis is the protection of structures from horizontal and vertical seismic excitations and the insulation of wind turbine pylon oscillations. The proposed dynamic systems are based on the KDamper oscillation absorption system. KDamper is an innovative passive vibration isolation and damping system based on the optimal combination of robustness elements, including a negative robustness element. The aforementioned award is a distinction for the School of Civil Engineering and for the NTUA in general. The School congratulates the PhD student and his supervisor and wishes them continued success.
